Fisk Family Molasses Cookies
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup molasses
2 1/4 cup flour
2 Tsp. baking soda
1/4 Tsp. salt
1/2 Tsp. cloves
1 Tsp. each of cinnamon, ginger

Mix together thoroughly the following:
soft shortening, brown sugar, egg and the molasses.

Next sift the following together:
flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon and ginger and then stir this into the shortening/sugar/egg/molasses
mixture.

Chill dough.
Once chilled, roll dough into balls the size of a large walnut.
Dip top of each ball into sugar.
Place sugar-side up, 3 inches aport on cookie sheet.
Sprinkle the tops with water, then bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.

These are a family favorite, and keep well - if you can keep them from being eaten immediately!
