irish sherry trifle sponge cake, jelly, sherry, fruit cocktail (home fruits or a tin variety) banana (optional) custard, fresh cream.
Place the sponge at the bottom or a large glass bowl (at least 8inches deep). Soak with at least 1 cup of sherry (sounds a lot but this works) make your're jelly and allow cool (1 packet is fine) add you're fruit to jelly apples, banana, peaches if fresh. if canned go for peaches and cherries and pear basic mix (NOT pineapple) pour the jelly and fruitmix over the sponge and sherry place in the fridge to set. When it is set, pour on you're custard. leave again to set in the fridge. when ready to serve top with lashings of whipped cream. dust lightly with choclate powder. (For a truly Irish trifle replace the Sherry with Poteen / a home brewed Irish Hooch!! Enjoy Slan |
